Position: Fabrications Manager

Start Date: Joined Summit Systems in November 1995!

Been in current role since June 2023.

Could you share your previous experience leading up to your current role as Fabrications Manager at Summit Systems?

I’ve worked for Summit Systems for over 27 years. Starting as an Office Junior, progressing to Service Co-Ordinator then becoming Fabrications Administrator, it’s safe to say I’ve had my fair share of learning experiences! I was Fabrications Administrator for 13 years and H&S Coordinator for Summit for 7 years, before becoming Fabrications Manager in June 2023. I’ve developed excellent relationships internal and external.

How have you developed and improved your department since taking on the role of manager?

Even in its infancy in the role, I’ve created a collaborative atmosphere where my team can freely share their ideas (not too freely though). I’m a true believer in teamwork, so I continuously ensure the three departments – Fabs/Technical and Warehouse are seamlessly working together through clear and open communication.

What specific strategies or initiatives have you implemented to enhance the performance and efficiency of your department?

I’ve implemented a new racking system, making stock control much easier and more efficient. I’ve also enhanced our quality control process to ensure better quality products for our customers. I have also improved the flow of information and communication between Summit HQ and the Fabrications division, making for quicker turnaround from the design process to the manufacture.

Can you highlight any major challenges you have faced in your role as manager and how you overcame them?

It’s still relatively early into my role as Fabrications Manager but luckily, I’ve not experienced too many major issues yet, but I am now more involved with HR across the whole business than I have previously been, which can sometimes be challenging.

How do you foster a positive and collaborative work culture within your department?

I believe in creating a fun environment while keeping things professional. I’m confident that my team can talk freely with constructive approaches. I like to show that I’m a leader, not a ‘boss’.

What do you envision for the future of your department and how do you plan to achieve those goals?

Looking ahead, I can see future projects pushing the department to grow further. We might need to expand our team and premises; however, this will depend on project successes.

Lastly, how do you see the future of Summit Systems as a whole, and what role does your department play in its overall success and growth?

I see and have seen Summit grow massively in the 27+ years I have been with the company, and it has grown from a family company I am part of, to part of my family. The company is going from strength to strength and Fabs has grown with it. It will continue to grow further with exciting new projects on the horizon.
