Meet the Manager: Kim Smith

26 June 2023

Welcome to the inaugural edition of our "Meet the Managers" series, where we have the exciting opportunity to introduce you to the exceptional individuals behind the success of Summit Systems. Kicking off this series, we are introducing Kim Smith, Supply Chain Manager at Summit Systems.

Name: Kim Smith

Position: Supply Chain Manager

Start Date: September 2022

Could you share your previous experience leading up to your current role as Supply Chain Manager at Summit Systems?

My previous experience was within supply chain as a buyer and account manager in manufacturing. Mostly electronics. Little did I know those experiences were merely steppingstones to the grand adventure that awaited me at Summit Systems!

How have you developed and improved your department since taking on the role of manager?

I believe I have developed efficient processes within my department and others. Structure was the missing puzzle piece and I feel we’ve now put it together with clear guidelines of where their responsibilities are and giving them the confidence to collaborate more.

What specific strategies or initiatives have you implemented to enhance the performance and efficiency of your department?

An example I have for a specific strategy is revamping our entire purchasing process, putting a flow chart together for the wider business to understand how we take a part code to order to end up with the product arriving at Summits door from our suppliers.

Can you highlight any major challenges you have faced in your role as manager and how you overcame them?

My role certainly hasn’t been a walk in the park. Major challenges happen on a daily basis within supply chain because of the global supply shortages we face but we pride ourselves on open communication.

How do you foster a positive and collaborative work culture within your department?

I've taken it upon myself to organise regular management meetings that bring all departments together. But that's not all. We also indulge in regular social gatherings to bring departments together.

What do you envision for the future of your department and how do you plan to achieve those goals?

Well, my vision is to see it grow alongside the continuing success of Summit Systems. As the demands of the business surge, we'll rise to the occasion, expanding our capabilities and ensuring we keep up the pace.

Lastly, how do you see the future of Summit Systems as a whole, and what role does your department play in its overall success and growth?

Overall, I see Summit as a long-term career for myself and the department as a whole. I want to develop my team to achieve their aspirations. This is not just a job for me; it's a long-term career, a commitment to excellence, and a legacy we're building together.
