Darren Cook: Meet Our New Process Cooling Expert

We're pleased to have welcomed Darren Cook to the Summit Process Cooling team in September. With an impressive career spanning nearly two decades in the refrigeration and cooling industry, Darren brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role as our Process Cooling Sales Engineer. His journey from apprentice service engineer to specialising in cooling solutions, particularly within the plastics industry, makes him a valuable asset to our customers. How long have you worked in the industry?
I started in the refrigeration industry in 2004 as an Apprentice Service Engineer and continued as a Service Engineer for 17 years working on a wide variety of refrigeration systems across several areas/sectors within the industry. In 2019 I moved more specifically into process cooling as a Service Engineer, and then in 2022 made the move into technical sales working predominantly in the plastics industry to design and offer cooling solutions from small line side chillers to large centralised cooling systems, utilising free cooling and delivering significant energy savings.
What attracted you to Summit Process Cooling?
With 19 years’ experience in refrigeration and the last 4 years working on cooling solutions specifically for the plastic industry, I felt that Summit Process Cooling, being part of the wider Summit Systems Group (with its history in plastics), would be the perfect place to refine my knowledge on plastics manufacturing processes and to compliment that with my experience in the cooling industry, to deliver tailored cooling solutions to customers that meet the specific needs of their production.
What aspects of your role do you find most fulfilling?
One of my favorite parts of the job is getting out on-site and learning about all the different manufacturing processes that our customers have. Fun fact about yourself?
Every year for the last 3 years I’ve done a 26-mile hike with some friends to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, there are several hikes around the country, so far, we have completed the Yorkshire Dales, the Northumberland Coast and The Peak district hikes. Next year we plan to do the Lake District.
