6 qualify as Mental Health First Aiders

27 March 2023

At Summit Systems, we're committed to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace culture, and that includes promoting good mental health among our employees. That's why we're proud to announce that six members of our team have recently qualified as Mental Health First Aiders, following a course provided by Mental Health First Aid England.

6 qualify as Mental Health First Aiders

This course equips learners with the knowledge and skills to recognise a wide range of mental health conditions, understand the support and therapy provided by professional healthcare providers, and know how to start a supportive conversation and signpost someone to seek appropriate help. By having Mental Health First Aiders in our team, we can create a safe and supportive environment for our employees, ensuring that anyone experiencing mental health issues can access the help and support they need.

The statistics around mental health in the UK are stark, with 1 in 4 people experiencing a mental health condition each year, and at least 1 in 6 employees experiencing common mental health problems in the workplace. This issue is compounded by stigma and fear of discrimination, which often leads to mental health conditions being hidden and untreated. The cost of this culture of fear and silence around mental health is significant for employers, with reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, and higher staff turnover.

By investing in Mental Health First Aid training, we're not only promoting good mental health among our employees but also creating a more productive and supportive workplace culture. We're committed to continuing to support the mental health of our team and hope that other employers will follow suit in creating a more supportive workplace culture for all employees.
